book club: the monocle book of gentle living

One chilly autumnal afternoon in the huge Waterstones in Piccadilly, we found a manual for living the idle way: The Monocle Book of Gentle Living.

The book (gently) reminds us of small things we can do to step back from the auto-pilot, such as going to the local market, taking the time to perfect a recipe, or heading to the mountains for a week.

“…for making good things happen, doing something you care about and finding a slower pace of life that’s kinder to yourself, those around you and the planet.”

Tips include:

  • Have a side project
  • Get back to nature
  • Send a letter, postcard or present
  • Buy things once but well
  • Go off radar (highly underrated!)
